From São Paulo ( where I currently live ) I have three possibilities, I personally prefer to go to Argentina, passing the border by Dionísio Cerqueira, quiet and with little traffic, and leave the border of Foz do Iguazu when I came back. The city of Posadas and then the famous Chaco Argentino, with its monotonous landscapes and a straight line of about 600 km. Attention to the heat, to various animals (goats, Horses, pigs, and wild animals) and to the many birds that often fly crossing the road. In this case I recommend the maximum speed of 120 or 130 km / h no more, the danger is that the birds will not hear you in time to fly (in any direction) and then you risk a collision with disastrous consequences.

I don't recommend doing more than 600/700 km a day, even if it is days of displacement (with little or nothing to see), otherwise your body will make you pay for it. I like to get up early, have breakfast and leave, so that around 09.30 am I have already done 200km (125 mils), then I stop for a short break of up to 15 minutes. Then I do another 200km, and so I do for the rest of the day. I normally don't have lunch, it makes me sleepy, I prefer a light thing. For me it works, I never do more than 200 km or 2 hours on the road. Another important thing, a backpack with a bag with at least 2 liters of water is essential, so you don't have to stop to drink and not dehydrate yourself. In this way I can do many miles a day for many days in a row.

Route 14 in Argentina, immediately after the border, is a delight, very green, full of curves, new asphalt and little traffic. Then the heat begins and the Chaco, is the shortest path, but also the most monotonous, however at the end of the Chaco, when you glimpse the Andes for the first time, the emotion is strong, and compensates for all the monotony of the plain, which however for me it has a certain charm.

Rest and a bit of tourism
To visit the tourist attractions of San Pedro de Atacama we have two options: to go there with our motorcycle, or go there with a local travel agency. If you are tired of traveling by motorbike it is better to go with an agency, you don't have to worry about anything, just get on the bus and get carried away, it's a "Tourist" option, there is no harm in this. If, on the other hand, you want to go there by bike, find out about the best times and road conditions. I made the "tourist", it was my first international and long journey on a motorbike and I must admit that I was a little tired, today I would definitely go on a motorbike.

I don't like doing the same road twice, at least not all of it, so for the return I went to Cafayate and Tafi del Valle, areas with excellent wineries.
